770 years before the events of The Psalms of Fire & Fury, two reluctant allies embark on an adventure that will change their entire kingdom and send the world down a new timeline.

Sheria El-Zacharius, the Mistress of Dragons of El Shadishé, is forced to accept aid from the foreign noble Karrik Dimetresco after dragon eggs are stolen and the nesting mother dragons are killed as hatching season on the Dragon Isles begins. The two reluctant allies navigate dangerous politics and rising tensions, clashing and growing closer despite their desire to stay far apart during their journey. As the two work together, they uncover a conspiracy that will unmake their world and a passion neither of them expected or wanted.

The actions, and fallout, of their story directly leads to the Alvarian children rebelling against their father and leaving their continent/kingdom to find different lands to lay claim to.
